Amsterdam is the capital city of the Netherlands and this country is located in North-West Europe between Germany in the east, Belgium in the south, and the North sea in the north and west.
On the map, Amsterdam is located at 52º22′ north latitude and 4º53′ east longitude.

Amsterdam is located in the province of North Holland. The provincial capital of North Holland is not Amsterdam, though but Haarlem. Amsterdam is clearly the cultural capital of the Netherlands, though: it has the biggest museums, the leading orchestras, two universities, most national newspapers and a thriving art scene. Amsterdam has an oceanic climate strongly influenced by its proximity to the North sea to the west, with prevailing westerly winds. Both winters and summers are considered mild, although winters can get quite cold, while summers are quite warm occasionally.

The Amsterdam canal system is the result of conscious city planning. Amsterdam has more than 100 kilometres of canals, most of which are navigable by boat.

The city’s three main canals are the prisengracht, Herngracht and Keizersgracht.

Amsterdam has many parks, open spaces and squares throughout the city. The vondelpark, the largest park in the city.
